ABSTRACT

If I am a strong performer, is my script really that important? That’s a little like asking a two-person skating team, “If one of you is particularly strong and graceful, does it matter how good your partner is?” Of course it does. They’re partners! And the relationship between your script and your performance is no different. If you are a weak performer, no script, no matter how stellar, will save the show. Likewise if you have a weak script, a brilliant performer will

not be able to salvage it. Certainly it would be more interesting to watch the wonderful performer perform the weak script than vice versa (which is why they call it a “performing art”), but if at all possible you want your monologue to feature a strong performance and a strong script.
