Toxoplasmosis is the most common cause of a brain abscess in AIDS patients. It is also a common etiology for CNS infection in transplant patients who receive immunosuppressive medication.
Dementia and motor dysfunction may be caused by HIV even if the patient has no evidence of opportunistic infection.
