Most patients diagnosed with epilepsy require treatment with at least two anti epileptic drugs (AED), and treatment should be continued for 2 years after the patient becomes seizure free.
In patients with partial complex seizures, PET scan shows reduced metabolism in the temporal lobe in the interictal period and increased metabolism in the ictal state.
