ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION The last four chapters outlined a rational analysis of the selection task, which appears to reconcile human performance with rational, probabilistic norms. This model, originally presented in Oaksford and Chater (1994a), attracted three extended commentaries (Almor & Sloman, 1996; Evans & Over, 1996a; Laming, 1996). This chapter summarises these commentaries and replies to them.
