ABSTRACT
…ethics distinguishes itself from law and etiquette by going deeper into the essence of our social existence. It distinguishes itself from religion by seeking reasons, rather than authority, to justify its principles. The central purpose of ethics is to secure valid principles of conduct and values that can be instrumental in guiding human actions and producing good character. As such it is the most important activity known to humans, for it has to do with how we are to live.
