ABSTRACT

In a white paper published by BrightPlanet (2000) the “invisible” or “deep web” was said to be over 500 times larger than the “surface web”, or the part of the web to which the search engines already provide access. It is a problem that many people are not aware of; and even if they have heard of the invisible web, they might not know just how extensive the problem really is. Indeed, the deep web is growing at a much faster rate than the visible or surface web and therefore the problem of not being able to search the internet effectively because of there being so many “deep web” sites is actually getting progressively worse.
