ABSTRACT

What data should be collected? At the end of this section we provide a list of possible topics that could be covered. In this paragraph we will make some qualitative observations. Top priority is the collection of very accurate data even when this implies a reduction in the quantity of data. This depends on the capacity of the specific library. If possible, collaboration with other libraries is advisable. It is interesting to produce uniform statistics per type of library. This yields an additional tool in convincing financing bodies for certain needs, for instance if your library scores lower than a comparable one on a specific topic. Once more, in this case, it is very important that every librarian has the same understanding of all the statistical topics that are covered. Regular meetings on this are in order. Usually, these collaboratively acquired statistics form only a part of the library’s statistics.
