ABSTRACT

Recent years have witnessed a growth in integrated information products promising to feed information to the desktop. Such services typically offer key databases, access to selected Internet sites, and added extras such as job ‘marts’ and online shopping. The essence of such services is that they assist the user in seeking out timely, relevant information. This chapter examines ways of keeping up-to-date, covering: popular news, health news, current awareness, official news and conference news. Both free and commercial resources are highlighted and how they might be brought together on the desktop.
