ABSTRACT

What can we conclude, having reviewed previous work on the subject and having summarised the results of the British Gambling Prevalence Survey and the qualitative study, about the existence, nature and causes of what we have been calling ‘problem gambling’? Although, as was stated at the beginning of Chapter 4, there has been a great deal of speculation on the topic and much remains to be established, nevertheless there are a number of conclusions about which we can now be quite confident.
