ABSTRACT

What we know of Hadewijch’s life and writings indicate that in the thirteenth century, a woman of unusual sensibilities (Hadewijch) underwent what we today think of as an archetypal process of individuation. Her written works out-picture her inner experience of movement from soul to psyche-the reverse direction of Mairi’s individuation process which, as we’ve seen, moved from psyche to soul. In the next chapter we will discuss this contrast.
