ABSTRACT

The Collaborative to Advance Social and Emotional Learning (CASEL) is pleased to have collaborated with the School Intervention Interest Group of the Society for Community Research and Action (SCRA) in the development of this and the next issue of JEPC, both of which are devoted to the implementation of effective school-based prevention programs. Founded in 1994, CASEL’s mission is to establish social and emotional learning (SEL) as an essential part of a child’s education from preschool through high school. CASEL has two overarching goals: (a) to advance the science of SEL and (b) to translate scientific findings into effective school-based practices that are used worldwide. To accomplish these goals, CASEL brought together the best thinkers and practitioners in the field of SEL to help schools, families, and communities nurture children’s social and emotional development, health-enhancing behaviors, and successful academic performance in school.
