ABSTRACT

Beyond the basic techniques described in Chapter 9, there are a number of advanced techniques that are equally important to the crime scene technician. This chapter considers two specific techniques: bloodstain pattern analysis and bullet trajectory analysis. Often when presented with situations involving evidence of this type, specialists will be brought in to assist in the processing. A specialist, however, is not always available. Therefore, at a minimum, the technician must understand and properly document this type of evidence so that a subsequent analysis can be conducted. Though somewhat advanced, these evaluations are typical of many violent crime scenes, and it is in the best interest of the crime scene technician to develop skills in both areas.
