ABSTRACT
Trace evidence is a generic term for small, often microscopic material. Such evidence may easily be overlooked in crime scene investigations unless proper care is exercised in the search. The variety of trace evidence is endless. The purpose of this chapter is to examine some of the more common types of trace materials frequently encountered in criminal investigations and to discuss concepts of collection, preservation, identification, and use of these materials.
