ABSTRACT
The ArndtEistert synthesis utilizes the Wolff rearrangement of
α
-diazoketones to ketenes in the homologation of carboxylic acids.
Wolff rearrangement of cyclic diazoketones leading to ring contraction has been particularly useful in the synthesis of strained small-ring compounds,
including four-and six-membered heterocycles.
