ABSTRACT

The use of lasers in the field of gastroenterology has evolved mainly because of the availability of flexible endoscopes that allow easy access to the lower and upper gastrointestinal (GI) tract. Laser energy may be easily delivered using a fiber optic passed through the working channel of the endoscope. In general, lasers have been used for either therapeutic or diagnostic applications. This review focuses on the therapeutic application of lasers in gastroenterology.
