ABSTRACT

ONE REASON WHY COMPANIES ADOPTED DATABASE MANAGEMENT systems (DBMSs) is that these systems helped to integrate the autonomous nature of corporate information. Previously, information was stored by application, which added a lot of processing overhead and increased the chances of erroneous entries being generated. DBMSs enabled companies to store information in a central place so applications viewed information collectively rather than autonomously

A similar transformation is about to take place in the enterprise management space. Because of the rapid acceptance of network computing and an increasing reliance on the Internet, networks have become important to organizations. Not only do employees rely on them to exchange information, but customers and suppliers also need them to place orders or ship goods.
