ABSTRACT

Image processing of vehicle’s is discussed in this chapter. When a vehicle is in a factory, image processing is applied for design and inspection, and when a vehicle is on the road, image processing is useful for Intelligent Transport Systems, which recently have been widely developed. There has been much research and implementation using image sensors to get information for traffic control and vehicle control. The image seen from a camera located beside or on the road can be used for vehicle detection, velocity of a car or car group measurement, parking car de-tection, etc. Moreover, the image seen from a camera located in the vehicle can be used for preceding car detection, measurement of distance to the preceding car, obstacle detection, lane detection, etc. In this chapter, studies of image processing for vehicles on the road are described.
