ABSTRACT

Identification of bacteria, yeast, molds, mycoplasma, and viruses by methods that are not DNA-based involves several technologies. Molds (filamentous fungi) are typically identified by traditional microscopic techniques but may also be identified by biochemical, fatty acid-based, or mass spectrometric methods. Molds will also be discussed later. Identification of bacteria and yeast will be covered as if the methods were the same and differences noted where applicable.
