ABSTRACT

In the future, tribologically stressed machine elements in the automotive industry [1], civil and mechanical engineering, and metallurgy and apparatuses will operate

1. with liquid film thicknesses lower than 1 µm or 2. with biologically fast, degradable, low additivated, and nontoxic fluids that request

new low toxic additive chemistry or 3. used oils in long drain or maintenance intervals or 4. with wear-resistant, triboactive materials [2]

— under deficient lubrication or — under dry conditions in air.
