ABSTRACT
In this chapter we briefly review the essentials of thermodynamics and its principal applications. We cover the first and second laws and discuss the most important thermodynamic properties and their dependence on pressure, temperature, and composition, being the main process variables. Change in composition can be brought about with or without transformation of phases or chemical species. The common structure of the solution of a thermodynamic problem is discussed.
