ABSTRACT

In this paper, we report on an initial study of teachers and schools using Howard Gardner’s Theory of Multiple Intelligences (MI). We conducted telephone interviews and later visited nine sites. The sites ranged from one classroom within a school to several schools within a district. Our goals were to uncover (1) the bases on which an MI approach was adopted, (2) the different ways in which the theory was being implemented, and (3) any formal or informal evaluations that suggested that MI was working.
