ABSTRACT

Drugs whose effectiveness depends on transmembrane access to the cell interior are often severely limited by their inability to effectively permeate the cell membrane. The methods employed to enhance membrane permeation include chemical modification of the drug (1), appropriate drug formulation (2), and mechanical disturbance or disruption of the membrane (3, 4).
