ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we change public health arenas, moving from the problem of predicting large hydrologic phenomena affecting communities and states to effects that operate inside the human body. Attention now focuses on the rhythm of the human heart Alternations in its rhythm can have important clinical implications for the well being and survival of the patient, yet, the predictions of these rhythms can be extremely difficult to forecast. After an introduction to heart rhythm and its disturbances, we will examine potential applications of difference equations to predictions of rhythm disturbances.
