ABSTRACT
Before part time students can hope to join the ranks of the legal profession, there are a number of significant barriers to overcome before they commence study, during their legal education and following the successful completion of the LLB. As the higher education sector continues to grow at a dramatic rate, there is an increased expectation both by and of many 18 year olds that they will enter into tertiary education.16 However, many from the sample group in our study did not appear to have had the same expectation that they would be able, at any time, to enter higher education. Exploring this lack of expectation goes some way in helping to develop our understanding of the specific barriers that part time students can face at the earliest stages of pursuing their ambitions/careers.
