ABSTRACT

This aspect of identification procedure is governed largely by Section 2 of Code D, together with Annex E, which concentrates on the conduct of group identification in which a witness views a suspect amongst an informal group of people. This may occur with the suspect’s consent and co-operation, although, if a suspect has refused to co-operate with an identification parade or a group identification, which includes failing to attend, this may take place covertly. Group identification may also be arranged where the officer in charge of the criminal investigation considers that this would be more satisfactory than a parade because of, inter alia, fear on the part of a witness.
