ABSTRACT

In pursuit of a policy of renovation and with a commitment to widen cooperation with other countries, Vietnam aims at commercial integration with the world. However, efforts made by Vietnam during this process of integration, including attempts to attain membership of the World Trade Organization (WTO), would be in vain if the issues of intellectual property rights (IPRs), including copyright, had not been taken seriously. In recognition of the importance of intellectual property rights, which include patents, trademarks, industrial designs and copyright, the protection of IPRs has become one of the most important prerequisites for membership of international organizations or becoming a signatory to international conventions. In recent years, the Vietnamese government has taken a number of steps to ensure proper legal guarantees for such rights, thereby creating a safer environment for doing business in Vietnam. Like other intellectual property laws, Vietnamese copyright law plays an important role in accelerating the process of international integration.
