ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we shall attempt a discussion of the safeguards of judicial independence from a non-traditional perspective. This means that the primary focus of the chapter will not be a discussion of the constitutional provisions which ensure that judges of the superior courts enjoy security of tenure. Rather, it will be on related issues, such as problems in repatriating to the region a final Court of Appeal, problems with the administration of justice, judicial training and alternative dispute resolution techniques.
