ABSTRACT

Foreign direct investment in developing countries has vastly increased in the past few decades with the economic and political liberalisation of many of these countries. The most notable examples of this phenomenon are seen in the emerging markets of East Asia, although, particularly in the wake of the Asian financial crisis, foreign direct investment is by no means limited to that region. Several countries of the Middle East have attempted to join this group of emerging markets, and Egypt is one example.
