ABSTRACT
The fact that legislation has been enacted by Parliament does not of itself guarantee that it comes into force. It must first receive the royal assent. In the case of legislation by the Australian Parliament the royal assent is given by the Governor General. Legislation by a State Parliament receives the royal assent from the State Governor.
