ABSTRACT

Typically, women assume prime responsibility for bringing up the next generation, and for looking after the sick and aged. This state of affairs imposes a triple burden on women-their time is totally taken up with family concerns; they are confined to the ambit of the household and denied the opportunity to ‘network’ in the way working men do, and they are economically dependent upon another adult-they lack financial resources of their own. Thus, often,

even the consideration of a political career an option.
