ABSTRACT
Fears regarding the ‘democratic deficit’ some saw as an inherent feature of supranational bodies were expressed, but overall participants accepted that future developments were likely to result in an increased number of supra and subnational bodies, and that the simultaneous development of such bodies would result in better government and greater accountability to the people. Women were fully expected to play a much larger role in governance in the new millennium.
