ABSTRACT
Committees are an integral part of the modern parliamentary system. A great deal of important work is done by them, and many parliamentarians find that committee work is among the most satisfying and fulfilling part of their jobs. Committees are often more collegial and informal than the House of Commons itself, and the atmosphere is frequently less partisan and adversarial. Witnesses can be called and questioned, and more substantive work undertaken.
