ABSTRACT

If a person has grounds to bring proceedings against another person, depending on the nature of the cause of action, he must do so within a limited period of time from when the cause of action arose. The time limits for bringing proceedings are entirely statutory and most are contained in the Limitation Act 1980. Although the periods of time are relatively long, a balance is struck between a person’s right to sue a person for harm caused and the right not to be perpetually exposed to the risk of proceedings.
