ABSTRACT

One aim of this chapter is to examine the role of other dialogues and initiatives concerning the Mediterranean in the period since 1995. The focus will be on the WEU and OSCE Mediterranean dialogues and the EU’s Barcelona Process. Reference will also be made to the activities of the NAA and the Mediterranean Forum. Obviously, it will not be possible to provide a detailed, in-depth analysis of each of these initiatives. Concentration will be on those aspects of these dialogues that may be of significance for NATO’s Mediterranean Initiative. The chapter will also discuss how NATO and the aforementioned other institutions and forums might coordinate their respective Mediterranean dialogues and initiatives.
