ABSTRACT
Lord Bingham CJ: On 2 October 1998, following a nine-day trial in the Crown Court at Manchester, the appellant was convicted by a unanimous verdict of 14 counts of obtaining property by deception. On 19 November 1998 he was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment on each count concurrently. The appellant was acquitted by direction of counts 1 and 2 on the indictment, both of them also charging the obtaining of property by deception, and count 17, which charged him with obtaining a pecuniary advantage by deception. He appeals against conviction by leave of the single judge.
