ABSTRACT
Lanford Wilson was born in Lebanon, Missouri, the town that would later become the setting for his Talley trilogy. His parents divorced when he was five. In 1956, Wilson went to San Diego to visit his father, who had resettled and started another family there. This ill-fated visit was later dramatized in Wilson’s play Lemon Sky (1970). Wilson briefly attended classes at San Diego State and University the University of Chicago before moving to New York City in 1962. He soon connected with the Greenwich Village theater scene, and his earliest plays were produced at the Caffe Cino and the La Mama Experimental Theater Club.
