ABSTRACT
No written documentation reveals anything of a gay Serbian history from the period of an independent Serb state of the tenth century until the modern era. Throughout this period, homosexual behavior was neither regulated nor explicitly prohibited. Nevertheless, the dominant patriarchal culture forbade, as it still does, public discussion of personal matters and, especially, sexual activities of any kind.
