ABSTRACT
Although virtually unknown today, Albert Moll was the preeminent neurologist and sexologist at the turn of the century before being eclipsed by Freud. The son of a Jewish merchant, Moll gained a medical degree under the supervision of Rudolf Virchow from the University of Berlin in 1885 and then did two years of postgraduate work in Vienna. Highly influential on the work of KrafftEbing, his studies include Die konträre Sexualempfindung (1891), Untersuchungen über die Libido Sexualis (1897), and Handbuch der Sexualwissenschaften (1911). Moll considered homosexuality a disease.
