ABSTRACT
The civilization of China emerged from prehistory during the first half of the second millennium B.C. in the valley of the Huang Ho (Yellow River), spreading gradually southward. Over the centuries China has exercised extensive influence on Korea, Japan, and Southeast Asia. Inasmuch as Chinese society has traditionally viewed male homosexuality and lesbianism as altogether different, their histories are separate.
