ABSTRACT
Chinese American playwright David Henry Hwang is best known for his eighth play M.Butterfly, which won a 1988 Tony Award for “Best Play” and many other prestigious awards (Outer Critics Circle, John Gassner, Drama Desk). In addition, theaters in two dozen countries have optioned productions of the play, and a film version starring Jeremy Irons, with a screenplay by Hwang, was released in the fall of 1993.
