ABSTRACT

The Chopin Letters remain the most important source of information on the composer’s life and activities. The various editions of the correspondence differ in their contents, the dating of the documents, transcription from the original manuscripts, and translation. This catalog, compiled from the most significant printed collections, lists letters to and from Chopin, as well as references about him in other documents. The numbers in each reference relate to item numbers in each publication. I have presumed that the latest dating of a letter is the most accurate, but earlier considerations of date can be researched through the reference numbers. Those documents that have been included in several publications clearly relate the most insight to the composer. This catalog is intended to facilitate comparison of the interpretations.
