The newer alpha-blockers like Doxasozin also dilate blood vessels and can be useful, although their side effects can be similar to the calcium antagonists. Methyldopa has been used for a great many years for high blood pressure and works by reducing the amount of adrenaline in the body in general. Whilst it can be effective, it can cause sleepiness as well as impotence and postural hypotension.
