ABSTRACT
This lesion is not uncommon in childhood, but rarely develops in adulthood. In children it may be possible to open it up with balloon valvuloplasty rather than an operation. This is where a balloon catheter (cardiac catheterisation) is introduced across the pulmonary valve and inflated. This should split the valve across its fissures, but not damage the valve itself. Later in life a valve replacement may be necessary.
