ABSTRACT
Any drug user who injects himself runs the risk of introducing infection, particularly Staphylococci, into the blood stream which can result in endocarditis on the tricuspid or pulmonary valves. The mortality of this is about 10%, but it will have long term effects upon the quality of life of the patient who survives.
