ABSTRACT

In a recent personal study of 45 medico-legal cases from 1991 to 1995, 23 involved the problems of chest pain. The problem is almost invariably that the diagnosis of a myocardial infarction has been allegedly missed. Frequently these cases result in the death of the patient. Clearly this is an important medico-legal area and there are a number of reasons why such errors occur. It should be noted that there is often an overlap of causes.
