ABSTRACT

There is a case of a patient (a docker) who presented asymptomatically with the co-incidental problem of high blood pressure. The systolic blood pressure was off the top of the scale on the mercury manometer (greater than 300mmHg) and the diastolic was 160mmHg. Because the patient did not feel he had any symptoms from his high blood pressure, he totally refused treatment. He was dead within a year. This underlines the problem that some patients, even those with very high blood pressure, can be completely asymptomatic, as well as the need for proper compliance in taking the tablets.
