ABSTRACT
The leading mathematician of his time and a notable scientist, he graduated B.A. from Oxford in 1580. By 1584 he was established in London in the service of Sir Walter Ralegh (1554-1618) as a scientific adviser, working on navigational matters for voyages to the Americas.
