ABSTRACT

On 11 April 1994, the state of Florida filed a suit against the U.S. government, demanding $1.5 billion as reimbursement for federally mandated health, education, legal, and welfare services to illegal immigrants. According to the state of Florida, the U.S. government failed to protect borders, thus attracting undocumented immigrants. As a result, Florida paid $884 million in 1993 alone for social services for 345,000 illegal immigrants. California, along with Florida, Texas, New York, and Illinois, also suffers from overwhelming problems with illegal immigrants and is considering a similar lawsuit. The state of California provided $489 million in health care alone to more than 400,000 illegal aliens in 1992.
