ABSTRACT

Critical in the operation and management of today’s correctional institution is the interaction of technology and human beings. Over the past fifteen years, technological innovation has spawned a proliferation of new devices that have had a dramatic impact on prisons. While the number and type of devices used in prison operations are vast, they can generally be categorized into seven areas: perimeter security, locking systems, internal-external surveillance, internal security, fire safety, communications, and management information systems.
