ABSTRACT

One of the most common themes in literature, films, and news media accounts of prison life is violence or the threat of violence. Juveniles are threatened with the promise of future victimization if their delinquent activities result in incarceration. New staff are trained to respond to as well as to prevent violent situations, and the families of those incarcerated worry about their loved ones surviving the daily exposure to prison violence.
